MIKE PAVELEC

Q: What years did you play as a Dino?

MP: 1987-1991

Q: What position did you play?

MP: Offensive Tackle (by year 4 we switched strong side, I was strong, Rohn Meyer was weak side.)

Q: What is your favourite memory of your time with the Dinos?

MP: National Champs 1988, Tim Karbonik in the huddle in the first quarter (when it was still tight) asking where we were all going for beers after we won.

Q: Have you been involved in football in any capacity since you graduated?

MP: With the Miami Dolphins for a short spell in 1991, Hamilton Ti-Cats 1992-1993, a few weeks with the Stamps. Then I helped coach O-line for a year when I did my masters (U of C, 1998), now just enjoying.

Q: What are you doing now?

MP: Teaching and travel. I teach for the US Air Force at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS) at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. I earned a Ph.D. (History) from Ohio State in 2004, and have been a professor since. Three years at Hawaii Pacific University, 2 years at the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. I also have a house in Chicago. I really enjoy riding around on my BMW and maintain a travel blog at www.historymike.com

Q: Do you have a family and/or kids now?

MP: Wife: Jennifer (UofC Dinos V-Ball to 1999); no kids.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share with other alumni?

MP: The reunion last year was awesome. I still keep in touch with a few of the old guys...
