JIM BAILEY

Q: What years did you play as a Dino?

JB: 1980-84

Q: What position did you play?

JB: Defensive End mostly. My rookie year I played Offensive Guard but moved to End in my 2nd year due to injuries on the D-Line. I never looked back!

Q: What is your favourite memory of your time with the Dinos?

JB: Hoisting the Vanier Cup after we won in 1983, in front of thousands of Queen’s fans (and a few Dinosaur fans). Played with a bunch of great guys who I still consider to be my best friends (some of them are pushing it though). Also have some great memories of my dad organizing events to support us including trips to watch our games. This really helped to build community and family support which is needed if you want to perform at a high level.

Q: Have you been involved in football in any capacity since you graduated?

JB: I coached with the Calgary Colts my first year out and then coached High School (Bishop Grandin) for a year. We won the city Championship that year. I helped the D-Line at several Dino camps as well. I was on the board of the 5th Quarter from 1984 to 1991 and President in 1991, the year before I moved to the UK. Also served on what was called the “Future’s Committee” of the 5th Quarter in the late 80’s which was tasked with setting the direction for the organization. This was great because it gave me close contact with other football alumni with a lot of passion for the program.

Q: What are you doing now?

JB: I’m President of my own company that provides CFO support and advisory on mergers and acquisitions and financings. I work mainly in technology / telecoms but also with companies in construction and oil and gas. I’m also a Director of two companies, one public and one private.

Q: Do you have a family and/or kids now?

JB: My wife Nina and I have a son Thomas (almost 4) and a daughter Louisa (2).
