The Dinos 5th Quarter Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Dinos Football Program, whether through volunteering on the 5th Quarter Board, participating in fundraising, volunteering on the Dinos coaching staff or mentoring young student-athletes. We are proud to that the recipient of the 2011 Dinos 5th Quarter Distinguished Alumni Award is Jason Assen.
Jason played as a Quarterback with the Dinos from 1991 – 1995 and graduated with a Kinesiology Degree. During that time, he was part of three Canada West Championships (1992, 93 and 95), was a conference All Star and led the Dinos to the Vanier Cup title in 1995.
The man known as “Snacks” by his team-mates was considered a natural leader who did, and still does, instil calmness and assurance to those around him, an important characteristic in the huddle or in the corporate world. On the field, he was known as a pinpoint passer, an exceptional team player and the only person who had bigger calves than Bob Whitburn! To this day, he is regarded as one who “bleeds Dinos”.
Jason became an active member of the 5th Quarter alumni as soon as he finished playing. Over the years, his commitment to the program has been incredibly high. He has been a member of the Dinos Football 5th Quarter board along with volunteering in various capacities in fundraising endeavours such as the 5th Quarter Dinner, the casino and the NFL Pool.
In more recent years, Jason has also served as a colour commentator for the DInos with QR77 and the FAN960. His wealth of experience with the program and valuable insights have been a wonderful addition for the listeners. He continues to be an eloquent spokesperson and tremendous ambassador for both the Dinos Football program and the 5th Quarter.
The Dinos Football 5th Quarter would like to thank Jason for his dedication to Dinos Football and honour him with the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award.

In his 3rd year with the Dinos, Krausnick-Groh has become a lynch-pin of the formidable Offensive Line. Krausnick-Groh started all 12 games for the Dinos in 2009 and was named to the Canada West all-star team at centre. He won the Canada Cup with Alberta U-19 team in 2007 and was heavily recruited throughout high school. Krausnick-Groh graduated from Cochrane High School and is an honour roll student currently studying Kinesiology at U of C.
