CONNELLAN FAMILY AWARD WINNERS
2010 Nate DiLeandro, Daryl Slade and Robert Eaman
The Connellan Family Award recognizes teamwork and contribution to the Dinos Football Program and there is no-one who personifies this award more than the team of Nate DiLeandro, Daryl Slade and Robert Eaman.
These three individuals are regarded as the premier statistical crew of university football in Canada and are the envy of every school in the CIS for their dedication and professionalism. Their standard is so great they not only work Dinos games, but are also part of the CFL crew. Despite their time commitments with the CFL, Nate, Daryl and Robert have never turned down a Dinos game. The best words to describe these gentlemen are professional, loyal, and dedicated. Simply put, they are the best at what they do and have immense pride in their responsibilities.
Nate DiLeandro has been defensive spotter since 1975 and, remarkably, has never missed a home game during that time. He has volunteered his time for 35 years because it is something he loves—being a part of Canadian college football.
Daryl Slade has served as an official statistician since 1979. He has done approximately 150 games in that stretch. His knowledge of the rules, and whether the play counts for yards and how many, is encyclopedic. Daryl’s accuracy is second to none and his integrity and professionalism are first-class. Like Nate and Robert, Daryl has a passion for college football. When Canada West moved to computerized stats, Daryl had no problem adjusting to serving as the caller for the input crew.
Robert Eaman served as public address spotter for Ken Newans from 1980 to 1991. He moved east for a few seasons only to return again in 1994. His quickness in calculating the yardage and seeing the field at the same time for the announcer is incredible. After the game he has assisted both Jack Neumann and Ben Matchett in preparing statistics for distribution to the teams and media. Robert’s commitment is such that he drives from Canmore for each game.
