
The 5th Quarter Football Scholarships are intended to advance education and amateur football in southern Alberta by providing financial assistance to certain student athletes. Eligibility criteria and instructions for submission of applications are outlined in the Terms of Reference provided with the Application Form. DOCTOR CASSAMAA 1st year defensive back with the Dinos, Cassama comes from Kristianstad, Sweden, where he played club football for the past five seasons and represented Sweden at the 2009 World Junior Football Championships in Canton, Ohio. He was named to the all-tournament team at the WJC where he came to the attention of Dinos head coach Blake Nill who was coaching with Team Canada. Cassama was born in Gambia and was named Karamo at birth after his father's brother, who was a doctor. This led to his nickname of "Doctor" growing up and it stuck, eventually leading him to legally change his name to Doctor Cassama. Cassama is studying Arts at U of C and hopes to play football professionally in either the NFL or the CFL. |
ERIC DZWILEWSKICurrently in his rookie year with the Dinos, Dzwilewski has had a baptism of fire, starting as Quarterback in 6 games this year following an early season injury to Dinos starter Erik Glavic. He has performed brilliantly and has a record of 4 – 1 in the games he has started. At just 18 years of age, his poise and skill augers well for the future success of the Dinos Football program. Eric was named the CIS 2010 football Rookie of the Year, the second consecutive Dino and the third in the last five years to win the Peter Gorman Trophy. Dzwilewski hails from Boise, Idaho and is an all-round athlete, playing basketball, baseball and running track in addition to his time on the football field. Dzwilewski is studying Arts at U of C. |
ALEX KRAUSNICK-GROHIn his 3rd year with the Dinos, Krausnick-Groh has become a lynch-pin of the formidable Offensive Line. Krausnick-Groh started all 12 games for the Dinos in 2009 and was named to the Canada West all-star team at centre. He won the Canada Cup with Alberta U-19 team in 2007 and was heavily recruited throughout high school. Krausnick-Groh graduated from Cochrane High School and is an honour roll student currently studying Kinesiology at U of C. |
AUSTIN LITTLEIn his 3rd year as Linebacker for the Dinos, Little is continuing to impress both on and off the field. In 2009, Little was named an Academic All-Canadian for the second straight season, posting a perfect 4.0 grade point average in 2008. Little was the two-time football MVP and athlete of the year at Centennial High School and is currently studying in the Haskayne School of Business at U of C. Little’s father, Brad, was a receiver for the Dinos in the 1980’s. |
STEVEN LUMBALACurrently in his 2nd year as a Running Back with the Dinos, Lumbala is building on his outstanding rookie year with another strong showing in 2010. He dressed for all eight conference games and all four playoff games in 2009, including the Uteck Bowl and the Vanier Cup, and had a career-high 13 carries for 156 yards off the bench including scoring one major in the Uteck Bowl at Saint Mary’s in Halifax. Lumbala was the valedictorian at St. Francis High School and is currently majoring in International Business at the Haskayne School of Business. He hopes to earn an MBA and pursue a professional football career. Lumbala was the inaugural recipient of the Gary Deman – St. Francis High School award, a scholarship named after the legendary St. Francis coach. |
ZACH MCNEILLCurrently in his 4th year with the Calgary Colts, Linebacker Zach McNeill has been team captain for the past 2 years. He was also named the Colts’ Most Valuable Player in 2009. A graduate of Lord Beaverbrook High School, McNeill transferred from Mount Royal University and is currently studying Kinesiology at the U of C. He plans to become a Physical Education teacher and also has a goal of providing personal training for football players. |
DJ WHETTONIn his 1st year with the Dinos, Whetton has been hampered by a pre-season injury and is looking forward to hitting the field. He was a two-sport athlete – football and basketball – at Bowness High School and was named a city all-star at running back and the Bowness offensive MVP in 2008. Whetton, originally from Montreal, is majoring in Fine Arts (Theatre) at U of C. |
